comet handoff packages accepted proposal, design, task, and delta-spec context for build and later recovery.
This page uses <classic-root> for the configured Classic OpenSpec root: docs/openspec/ for new projects and openspec/ for projects that retain the legacy layout. The location is selected by classic.artifact_layout; see Project file structure.
The command writes context under <classic-root>/changes/<name>/.comet/handoff/ and stores the resulting path and hash in Classic state. --hash-only recalculates the SHA-256 without writing files, which verify can use to detect drift.
Normal users do not need to run handoff manually; /comet-design creates it. The packaged comet-handoff.mjs launcher remains for compatibility, while agents and automation should prefer comet handoff.Last modified on July 29, 2026
